Gee/Lee Matchup

How about those Metropolitans? Once again I thought the game was over in the 3rd inning and once again the Mets prove me wrong with a brilliant come back. Last night was great proof that we can pass the bench test. I don't care if it's May 9th, sweeping the Phillies with Halladay and Lee in the lineup is basically the World Series for me. Let's take a look at the pitching match up tonight:

ERA
WHIP
xFIP
k/9
bb/9
h/9
Gee
4.5
1.34
3.1
8.16
2.25
9.8
Lee
1.96
.70
2.41
7.04
0.78
5.5

Keep in mkind that Gee has pitched about ten more innings than Lee due to Cliff's recent injury. Obviously Cliff Lee is the better pitcher here. Lee is one of the best pitchers of his generation and would be an Ace on most every other club. That being said, aren't you kind of impressed by how close this match up is? The 5th starter for the Mets who is in his second season would really be expected to be much farther behind one of the best Pitchers in the game. This is really a testament to Gee. He has an xFIP in the low 3's, a decent WHIP and strikes out more than a batter an inning better than Cliff Lee. Obviously his big problem is that he gives up a lot of hits but couple that with a lot of strike outs and you have a decent pitcher, especially for a 5th man. The Phillies offense has been trash recently so I think Gee stands a good chance tonight. Bring on the sweep.
