Mets v. 2012 Playoff Teams

The epic field of 8, let October madness begin!
I wanted to take a quick look at how the Mets fared against the 2012 teams that made the playoffs. Below is a table that shows the results, note the Mets did not play against the A's, Tigers or Rangers this year.

The Mets had winning records against the Orioles and Cardinals only with a split against the Giants. The teams we played the worst against were the Yankees and Cardinals. It's funny some of these wins represent the best games of the entire season. The opening sweep of the Braves, the sweep of the Orioles and the Cardinals in June, the Johan no hitter and the late season "maybe we are good again" series against the Giants. It also contains some of the lowest points in the season, the Yankee game that ended Dickey's crazy streak of strike outs and one hitters, the Dickey rain game against the Braves and the multiple drubbings we received from the Nats.

In the Earth-2 playoffs where the Mets made the post season, I wouldn't  feel too great about playing any of these squads. I think we could probably take the Orioles in a one game Wild card playoff and maybe the Braves, provided we are aided by new and wildly divergent interpretations of the infield fly rule. In a 5 game series I guess I would want Baltimore but I probably wouldn't want to bet on the Mets to beat any of these teams over that period. In real baseball today, my predictions are: Nats, Reds, Yankees, A's.
