David Wright is the best player in baseball

Well readers of the blog know I have been anxiously watching the daily fWAR horse race for the day when David Wright would overtake Josh Hamilton and become for a brief moment at least, the best player in baseball. For a while it was neck and neck, then J Ham pulled ahead and Votto and Adam Jones caught up but for today Wright is king.

Yes I am aware that this is not the way you are traditionally supposed to use WAR and that WAR for portions of a season is not a great stat but I don't care. David Wright is the leader and after lasts night game we need to be happy about something Mets related. D Wright is currently batting .362 with an OPS of...wait for it...1.050. Damn that's a tasty stat. Let's keep going: he has hit seven home runs (on pace for over 20), stolen 5 bases, struck out a miniscule 13% of the time, he has a triple, 19 doubles and has committed only three errors.

This feels good. This has been the Wright we have all been waiting for. Not only is he putting up great numbers but he is fun to watch. He is no longer a contender for most strike outs in the league, gone are the loooong slumps, the constantly changing stances and the general feeling of being let down. Here (hopefully to stay) is David Wright, the best player in baseball.
