Verlander v. The Mets

A few minutes ago, Justin Verlander suprised no one and won the AL Cy Young award. I thought it would be interesting to see how the Mets did against the crowned champion of AL pitching.

The Mets faced Verlander once this year, on June 30. You may remember this as a magical period of the 2011 season were the Mets were briefly an offensive powerhouse, specifically having scored 30 runs against the Tigers in the previous two games. While Verlander beat the Mets, we had a relatively strong showing against him. He pitched seven innings, gave up seven hits including two home runs to Beltran and Murphy with Reyes reaching base in all three plate appearances. So while the AL Cy Young winner beat the Mets in his only appearance against them, the Mets definitely got to him in ways not a lot of other teams could.
