Existential Mets Talk

The Mets didn't sign Jose Reyes, I guess my question is, whats the difference? In the grand scheme things, it doesn't really matter if we brought Jose back our not. One man wasn't going to make a difference in the results of next season. We had Jose at his best last year and we came in 4th.

This team is several players away from being competitive and cant get much worse. What did we need Reyes for? To get people excited about a .300 hitter playing for a 4th or a 5th place team that is 20 games out of first? Reyes was in contention for a batting title this year going into the last day and did people get excited? No they complained about him taking himself out of the game.

In all likelihood the Mets will be a 4th or 5th place team next year. We don't appear to signing any impact players in the offseason and we don't have any prospects ready to move up to the show. So let's accept it our fates as unchangeable and have fun with it. Let's cheer for Ike Davis and his return from injury, let's cheer for Murphy and Tejada and whoever else could be the next Reyes, let's keep hoping for the R.A. Dickey no hitter we all know will happen one day and lets hope that a few of our 70 wins come against the Phillies.
